The Talkhouse
As my regular readers know (that is so funny writing that), I rented a room in a family's home for my five-week stay in Oxford. When Steve came to England, he wanted some place more private. Staying in Oxford was prohibitively expensive. So we booked a room at an inn a few miles out of the city. It was a good choice (except for them charging me full price for breakfast when I only had eggs, but that's for me to mention in my Tripadvisor review). One, it was lovely and quiet. Two, it was pretty easy to get into Oxford when we wanted to. Three, it was a pub so it was easy figuring out what to do at the end of the day.
Here are a few pics of The Talkhouse in Stanton St. John, Oxfordshire.
Isn't it pretty? I love the rustic charm. It's made of Cotswold stone. And check out the thatched roof!
There are four en suite rooms in the annex off the patio.
That's our room. It was called American Paint. I guess the rooms had horse names. I know one was called Shire.
Stanton St. John is a tiny rural village. This is the view of the fields beyond the parking lot.
And this is what we had parked in the lot - a cute, but sporty looking Ford Fiesta.
Inside was cozy and inviting.
These big spigots adorned the wall above the bar.
One of two fireplaces. And a wood beamed ceiling.
I loved the big hanging baskets of flowers outside the rooms.
