Ch Ch Ch Changes

Goodness, it's been over a month since I posted! The fact of the matter is I've been quite busy working on my dissertation and . . . moving! Our term at the wee bungalow was only for six months (up to eight if necessary), so we began scouring the rentals shortly after the new year. We found one place, a three-bed bungalow, in the Culloden area east of Inverness. The price was good and it had excellent bus links. But it was small. I was willing to go for it. There was very little for rent and I was terrified that we'd be back where we were in the summer: Essentially homeless and shifting from one temporary place to another. I couldn't handle that again. But Steve really dug in his heels. He knew we'd be too cramped and miserable in such a small space. It was bigger than the bungalow, but not by much.

We went round and round about the place for a few days. There had been other possibilities with the same rental company, but they wouldn't budge on the No Pets thing, so I was getting even more concerned. And then a three-bedroom furnished apartment showed up on the firm's site. I noticed it and mentioned it to Steve. It had the square footage, made no mention of no pets, and was only a mile from the city center. But it was furnished. And an apartment. Not exactly what we were looking for.

Still, it looked really nice in the photos, so we contacted the company right away. Oddly, estate agents are closed on the weekends here, so we didn't hear back until Monday. Where we were the first to contact them about it, and had been working with them for a couple of weeks trying to find a place, they offered us first refusal on the apartment. We toured the place and basically fell in love.

We now live in the old Highland Orphanage, now fashioned as Culduthel House. It was purpose built in 1882 and operated until 1954. The building was then converted into apartments. The owner of this one is in the Royal Air Force, so he put the place up for rent when he was stationed elsewhere. We now have tons of room, which the cats really enjoy.

Here's a pic of the exterior of the building.

I think you can see why I fell in love with it. :-) Our apartment is on the upper floor. It starts at the far left and runs all the way through the second set of bay windows.

I'll post interior photos when the place is in order. Right now it's a chaotic mess of boxes, bags, and jumbled furniture. Steve's away for work, so it's just me. And my dissertation takes priority. So it's slow going, but it's getting there.
