New York - Part 2
This blog is a variety of photos I took as we explored the city. There is no defining theme other than New York.
This is the view from our apartment in Little Italy. We were right on Mulberry Street.
The Chelsea Market is a popular indoor area featuring a variety of shops and restaurants in the Chelsea neighborhood. It's housed in the old National Biscuit Company warehouse. You know NAtional BIScuit COmpany. I was intrigued by the place for two reasons. One, I never knew the origins of the name NABISCO because I never realized that we used to call cookies biscuits like they still do in the UK. Two, I really appreciated how they had the old biscuit tins, advertising, and collectibles on display in windows throughout. I like when a place remembers its history. This is one of the display cases.
Here's another. I love the brand name. Talk about subliminal advertising.
Why did Oreo stop the lemon filling? That sounds yummy!
The interior still has some of that old warehouse vibe to it. It's pretty cool.
A triangular building in a similar style to the famous Flatiron Building. We figured the rooms at the point couldn't be more than about eight feet wide.
A rather amusing declarative sign above a steakhouse near the triangular building.
An old church we stumbled upon on our way to the subway station.
I loved the collection of buildings here with the water tower up front, the Empire State Building in the back, the green edging, and the gold dome. It was just neat.
It was a bit dreary that day. This was on the edge of China Town.
This is on the fringe of Times Square. We didn't get too close to the madness. We were only in the area to have lunch at our Chevy's Tex Mex. That particular restaurant holds some memories for us. Plus, frankly, chain or not, it serves good Tex Mex food.
The building on the other side of Chevy's was advertising another movie. There is nothing subtle about Times Square.
Another shot of the Empire State Building, plus the New Yorker on the left. The tall black building on the right with the red emblem on top is where Steve had his training class about ten years ago. We stayed in New York for a week then.
